Guayusa Visions Ceremony

Tea Ceremony with Itzhak Beery

Datum: Thursday, 11 June 2015
Locatie:  De Ruimte, Weesperzijde 79 Amsterdam

The Guayusa Tea Ceremony and vision quest led by Itzhak Beery. Challenge your inner shamanic warrior, your sense of space, time and direction as you step in into the magic of dreamtime. Join us to honor the Amazonian Guayusa dream-tea spirit with a special traditional ceremony where we sip the sacred tea and then go into a deep meditative silence –in complete darkness– to encounter and communicate with our spirit guides to enable us to bring new visions and awareness for our lives. As it happens in indigenous cultures around the world, we will gather in a dark cave to explore the shamanic power of darkness, perception and the unknown, to engage in a practice that allows the six senses to magnify the connection to the unseen world and built in intuition.

As a testament to guayusa’s revered status as a powerful plant throughout South America, famous Harvard Ethnobotanist Richard Evans Schultes found a 1,500-year old bundle of guayusa leaves in a medicine man’s tomb high in the Bolivian Andes, far beyond the natural range of the plant. Jesuit missionaries fell in love with guayusa in the 1700’s, and surrounded many of their missions in Ecuador and Colombia with bright, leafy guayusa trees. Many indigenous communities say that guayusa is a plant teacher, and forms an important part of their shamanic traditions. Several myths recount how guayusa was the first plant that taught human beings how to dream, and how the ritual of getting up at dawn protects humans from wandering spirits in the night. Guayusa is said to teach people how to conquer fears and have poise and presence through difficulty.

In studies of Guayusa, this tea has been found to contain 50% more anti-oxidants than green tea with the second highest ORAC score of any other food product tested. Tests have also shown Guayusa to contain 90 mg of caffeine/ 8oz cup making it the second most caffeinated plant on earth next to coffee but with many more health benefits. One of the most important findings of this study was the synergistic effects of Guayusa’s unique blend of Theobromine (also found in high quantities in dark chocolate), Theophyline, vitamins C and D, essential minerals Potassium, Magnesium, Calcium, Zinc, Chormium, caffeine and all 15 essential amino acids (most importantly Leucine, which is not synthesized in our bodies and is needed to repair and build muscle tissue).

Itzhak Beery is internationally renowned as a shamanic healer with special insightful and penetrating knowledge. In his new book, The Gift of Shamanism, he recounts his journey from New York advertising professional to Andes and Amazonian shamanic apprentice. He was chosen to become a lineage holder, and instructed to apply this ancient wisdom in his home -- the heart of Manhattan's Greenwich Village .
