Entrepreneurship and Spirituality

Some people might think what does entrepreneurship and spirituality has in common?
I say everything! If you don’t believe it, I suggest you read this.
If you do, you know what I mean! To really understand and compare these, we first need to know the meaning of the name we have given it.
Name literally means the root of it. Spirituality means "of or concerning the spirit"
Entrepreneurship means to go on an undertaking.
Some people see spirituality as two things; it is who you really are and what you are here to do. In other words who we are meant to be (come) or your starting point and what you will undertake to be (come) who you are meant to be.

History

A lot of ancient wisdom especially from the Orient talks about the 4 elements.
In China it is wood, fire, earth and metal. In India it is Air, Fire, water and earth.
According to the Chinese when we are born from energy to matter, we take on varying qualities of the first four elements, and it is this combination that defines our differences.

In India through these combinations of elements they named three types of people Vata, Kapha and Pitta, which group into 10 profiles so to say.
Knowing which type you are helped to clarify what were the best foods to eat in which season, what were the best moments to be active, to relax, in what way a person could communicate more effectively with each others and much more.
In other words it helped to become more in harmony with oneself and its surroundings. When they were more in harmony this meant that the spiritual journey on which they were could be evolved better, because they were more aware of themselves and their surroundings, and in that way their action would be more aligned.
This doesn’t mean having an easy route, it means the learning cycles you have and experience are becoming more and bigger, instead of a vicious circle.
Some people see spirituality only as in the daily things happening to them or what they are doing, forgetting first to understand who they really are and what their natural tendency is. If we would compare this with sports, it doesn't make sense to keep playing the same sport over and over again while you learn a lot from it, if you don’t first understand who you are.

If you don’t believe that we are born with different percentages of 4 energies take a look at and compare the physique of a person who sprints the 100-meter and that of a marathon runner. In sports when you have clarity on whom you are, you can choose a sport which fits you best and which helps you more to become who you meant to be.
If you would switch the sprinter and the marathon runner, then both we as they would experience a very different reality.

Spirtual leaders

Same with when you would compare Spiritual leaders, teachers or people like the Dalai lama, Deepak Chopra, Huub Oosterhuis, Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Theresa.
When we would switch them in their role, it wouldn’t fit (feel right).
They play the role that is destined for them.

Prediction

Ancient wisdom believed our life is made up of 12 stages of 7 years.
Each 7 years our whole body would completely change with new cells and we would go through a different cycle of learning.
Each person is unique but we go through similar learning cycles.
For example who hasn’t heard of puberty, mid-life crisis, pension, etc.
So often we can predict in what stage a person is or in what stage he will be next.
Only that is too simple.
Some things speak to us all, we all need to breath, eat, etc, but we are not all the same.
First thing is to become aware of what spiritually really means for you to get clarity.
Second step is to become aware of whom you are and the natural energies you are born with. This in order to become clearer what role will help you to be in more harmony with yourself and your surrounding
In other words we need to define something that is permanent, which is who we really are, through which we can take action on something that is temporary, our vehicle to become who we meant to be. Most people spend too much time of what they are doing before finding out who they really are.
In life we can switch from doing one thing to the other that is temporary, but all that time we do it with ourselves, which is permanent.
You can’t be one without the other, it is about interplay.

Business

Now maybe all nice but what has that to do with business you might wonder!
If we look at the word entrepreneur is means to go on an undertaking, a spiritual person does the same!
They go un an undertaking and they use life for this.
A businessperson uses an enterprise, which means an undertaking, for this.
An enterprise just like life is temporary and can be used to do good or bad depends on the person.
Business people are also people, so they too are born with this energy frequency and differ among each other, but have a natural tendency to one of those 4 energies.
But how would this go to work in a business?
Just like in a sports team, people fit some roles better then others.
The same applies in business.
When you put someone where he naturally fits the best, you create the greatest resonance and harmony.
When we look at some successful entrepreneurs like an Anita Roddick, Warren Buffet, Paul Newman, Andrew Carnegie, they each created their wealth in a totally different way.
If we would switch them just like the spiritual leaders or teachers they wouldn’t be that successful and we probably wouldn't heard of them today.
It is again about first knowing who you really are.

Around 2000 a young man called Roger Hamilton created a profiling system for entrepreneurs based on the I Ching and the 5 elements, called Wealth Dynamics.
He found out through extensive research that there are 8 profiles in entrepreneurship, and each one of us a natural tendency to one of these.
Which is our path of least resistance and which will create the best harmony when followed. Just like with ayurveda in your life, now through understanding this profile in business, it gives you insight and clarity on who you really are and what role to play.
It gives a starting point from which it becomes easier to create harmony, and this helps you to develop and build your wealth.

Wealth and spirituality

Now when a lot of spiritual people hear about wealth they get resistance because a lot them think wealth is money, but it is not.
Wealth is what you left with when you were to lose all your money. It is building that foundation from who you are and begin with to who you are meant to be (come).
That way if someone would take away something, it doesn't matter the whole world, because you have built an internal wealth foundation that never can be lost.
When looked externally through this foundation you could create the external wealth right up again.
Look at a person like Anita Roddick, if a person would have taken her external wealth away, she could have build it up much quicker and in more harmony then she did before, because she build something which is permanent.
Now imagine if you would put what Anita Roddick has build which is permanent in another person their mind.
Only this person is struggling with their business. What would happen with their business when they have in their mind what Anita Roddick has build? Would it start to grow, and become a more profitable business despite the circumstances?

A lot of people who start in business or as a entrepreneur focus on what business to start, in other words what is their vehicle. Forgetting that that is temporary, and doesn't necessary resonate with them.
Some people in business give opposite advice: start a business, no, buy a business, no, go to the stock market, no, start multi level marketing, no, buy a franchise, no, be a speaker, no, do deals.
With so much and different advice it is very easy to lose sight and forget who you really are and what is the way of most harmony for you.
People can swap vehicles but keep operating in their profile and stay in harmony.
An example is Arnold Schwarzenegger.
He, in one of the 8 profiles, is called a Star Profile. This means his strength is to be upfront before people and to build a strong brand. Other famous Star Profiles are Martha Stewart, Oprah Winfrey.
Arnold switched from bodybuilding, where he operated in his star profile, to the Hollywood industry where he operated again in his star profile and then switched to politics where again he stayed in profile.
He changed vehicles, but stayed in harmony with his natural strength, ability and energy.

Predict

Just like life goes to seasons and stages, a business does this as well.
So when you understand this it becomes clear you can predict in what season and stage you are and what you need to do next. When a business is not working well you have the clarity to get it up and running again.
A business in harmony goes through 8 stages of which each stage has 4 seasons and a transition phase.

So the money part, what is spiritual about that?

In life and often especially as kids we make promises, and we are told to keep them.
A good entrepreneur carries a promise as well, he only doesn't keep it, he shares his promise with other people.
In old times they would exchange goods with similar value, and from that derived money. Money was a means to exchange value of goods.
Money in itself is nothing more then a trust and a promise.
When you now buy bread you trust that for the money you give to the shop that you will get value for your money. The shop owner trusts that money to be of value.
It is an exchange of value because there is a trust.
You only go to a place where the level of their promise synchronizes with you!
Money is something that is temporary, which is needed to develop the permanent. We need money to feed ourselves, for clothing, for a roof above our head.
Money is one of the temporary vehicles used to help us to become who we are meant to be.

Bill Gates his promise when he started wasn’t to be just rich but to put a computer in every house, so people could benefit from that.
With which promise do you resonate more?
An entrepreneur chooses a promise and then decides which vehicle is the best to create harmony with himself and his promise
The level of his or her promise determines the size of his enterprise and his undertaking.

A lot of profiling systems have the 4 elements inside of them, but they miss the 5th one, which is the water element in Chinese wisdom, the element of flow or the Spirit Frequency. In the profiling system developed by Roger Hamilton, called Wealth Dynamics, the 5th element plays a very important role. The question for this 5th frequency is why. When we ask ourselves why, we try to get clarity on meaning to who we are and who we are mean to become. Both the entrepreneur and the enterprise need Spirit to stay alive. It is asking why are we on this undertaking, what is the purpose? Spirit comes from the word spiritus meaning Breath.
Breath is just like Yin and Yang, it is breathing in and breathing out.
One cannot do anything without the other. Just like the permanent and the temporary.
But breath or Air gives us the ability to live as well.
When Air stops moving it dies, same when a river stops moving the water begins to stink. In business money is the air and breath that needs to flow in order to be able to keep going on the undertaking of the promise.
So the person himself can become who he is mean to be, and in the process can help other people. Again it is about creating harmony between opposites.
Some research shows that when we feel tired it just means a lack of oxygen, and that when we start to breath in more aware and deep, we start to get more energy.
In a business when it is not going well, the people often lack spirit for what they are doing and (the bigger) why.  When there is a spirit in a company you can see and feel that, just like when a person is in love you can see and feel that.

An entrepreneur needs an enterprise, together with a spirit, so the permanent can develop itself through the temporary in other to become who they are meant to be.

While we are still alive the only thing, which we shouldn’t be forgetting, is to breath.
